Meet Victor!

My name is Victor and I am a maintenance worker here at Hudson Guild. I have worked at the Guild since arriving from the Dominican Republic three years ago. I am grateful to the organization for giving me the opportunity to work here even though I did not speak English. When I got hired they told me not to worry -- the important part was the work I do.

I love how respectful everyone is here at Hudson Guild. I work across all of our locations and everyone is really nice to me. I am extremely appreciative of management because they look at us as people, and not simply as employees. The Guild has supported me through tough times with my family and I am grateful for that. I am also proud of working at Hudson Guild because of the vision, mission, and commitment that the organization has to the community. I am happy to play my role in making it happen! I dream one day to vacation in Hawaii. I would like to get to know Hawaii since I know the Dominican Republic well enough.

Get ready for Hudson Guild's Haunted House on October 23 from 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm. This free event is brought to you by Hudson Guild's Community Building Department and will take place in our Elliott Center. We promise you a frightful event! Be ready to scream!

NORC and HOPE Connect!

The Hudson Guild NORC and Hartley House HOPE programs were finally able to meet in person after being delayed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. This NORC and HOPE staff meeting allowed them to discuss their goals and upcoming events to better serve our older adult community. "Having all the staff come together in one place and in-person for the first time at Hartley House is exactly what we've envisioned!" said the Director of NORC & HOPE, Yessenia Zuniga.

Our Senior Photographers!

Our participants in the Adult Center took part in a remote 14-week photography program sponsored by The Josephine Herrick Project. The majority of the students used their smartphones to capture vivid images of their surroundings, which were collected and made into a printed book. The Josephine Herrick Project is committed to reaching as many people as possible through photography. They reach populations that are considered outside the mainstream, vulnerable, or at-risk, including, but not limited to veterans with PTSD, isolated senior citizens, recent immigrants and English language learners, students with cognitive and physical disabilities, and young people considered at-risk. All of our program participants report profound changes in their confidence, sense of self, community engagement, and voice.

This Month's Buzz

New exhibit alert! Hudson Guild art gallery will be showcasing The Art of Comics, a project conceived by guest curator Rick Krieger as a group show highlighting several notable practitioners of comic strip art whose work speaks to adult audiences, using the genre for satirical or serious themes. Artists in the show include Julian K. Akins, Eve LeBer, Ben Katchor, Kevin Mutch, Brian Postman, Bisakh Som, and Tobias Tak. A collaborative work by the late David Wojnarowicz, Marguerite Van Cook, and James Romberger – whose work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Museum – will be a centerpiece of the show.

Our K-8 Youth Services after-hours school program is back. We are happy to provide working families with a safe place where their children can interact with others as well receive hands-on instructions. We are back in our theater! This October 29th our theater officially reopens with the showing of Hudson Guild Theatre Company's Around the World in 80 Days - A New Dance Adaptation. Look out for details soon so you don't miss the show!
