Hudson Guild to Recognize Outstanding leaders of the Chelsea Community in Honor of its Founder, Dr. John Lovejoy Elliott
(December 3, 2020) – On Wednesday, December 9 Hudson Guild will host its 64th annual Dr. Elliott Celebration. This event is held in commemoration of Hudson Guild’s founder, Dr. John Lovejoy Elliott, and his devotion to community service. The celebration recognizes outstanding leaders in the Chelsea neighborhood for their outstanding service within our community. The event will be held virtually on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0BZGvI9nx3OJWyYTDodAFA).
A leading figure in the Ethical Culture Society, Dr. Elliott believed that a meaningful and fulfilling life was one which was guided by morality and the duty to engage in social service. These principles, together with the influence of the settlement movement, led Dr. Elliott to establish Hudson Guild in 1895. For 125 years, Hudson Guild has provided essential services to more than 14,000 people annually in Chelsea and on the West Side of Manhattan.
This year, Hudson Guild is proud to recognize the following community leaders who have made a profound impact on the Chelsea community:
Youth Service Award – Neviah Waldron
Senior Service Award – Zhao Feng Sa
Dorothy Epstein Community Service Award – Tenants Associations from Elliott-Chelsea and Robert Fulton Houses
Executive Director Ken Jockers said, "This year has been a challenging one for everyone. Yet, I am continually inspired and amazed by the people in our community who come together in times of need. Each of this year's honorees exemplifies Dr. Elliott's mission of 'helping people help each other and themselves' and I am proud to recognize them for the difference they are making in the community."
