Meet Mr. B!

I am Jahreek Beatty, or as our youth like to call me, "Mr. B". I am Director of Education & Community Engagement at Hudson Guild. As Director of Education & Community Engagement, my role is to provide support to those who are in need of services, and uplift our youth so they reach their fullest potential. I also provide staff with the tools they need to connect with youth in a more meaningful and productive way. The most enjoyable part of my job is when a young adult comes to us in a time of need, and we are able to provide them with the skills and strategies to overcome obstacles and attain new short and long-term goals. The most difficult part of the position is not having enough hours in a day to provide support to those who need it. We try to make every hour count but still there isn't always enough. My proudest moment was in 2018 when we collaborated with NYCHA Elliott Chelsea Tenants Association President Darlene Waters for Family Day. Through our outreach efforts, we received a lot of congratulatory emails from other organizations, stating it was the largest youth presence they had seen at an event like this. I dream of vacationing in Venice, Italy one day, on the boats going through the city.

Our youth are learning archery!

This summer, some of Hudson Guild's teens, as well as 4th and 5th graders, have the opportunity to learn archery. This is thanks to Hidden Gems Archery, which comes to two of our locations to give lessons to our youth participants. Deputy Director Wilson Cano shared the reason why bringing archery to our youth is important "Exposing our youth to different experiences than they are accustomed to will teach them to have an open mind, and be more versatile as they grow older and progress into professional adults."

Don't miss the show!

Talent Jam! Episode 5 , this season's final episode, will premiere on August 6th at 8:00 pm. You can watch it here. If you missed any of the first 4 episodes -- or our special Rhyme Time: Mother Goose (Old and New) -- catch them all here.

Hudson Guild Gallery II is open!

On July 29th, the gallery at Fulton Center reopened to the public, with the presentation of The Portrait Project by Rusty Zimmerman. This show is not only a testament to the members of our community but of this historic period in time when Hudson Guild helped vaccinate the community. The paintings in the gallery were painted in the same space they are being shown. A special thank you to Google for their support on this project. The gallery will be open to the public Tuesday- Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and the show will run until September 22.

**Rita Condado, who turned 102 years old the day she sat for the portrait above, recently passed away on June 21, 2021. We send our condolences to her friends and family.**
