Meet Yazmin

Hudson Guild is proud to be one of the seven United Neighborhood House (UNH) member agencies participating in the “Future of Social Work: The Settlement House Network and Multilingual Communities”. The initiative, led by the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center and Lehman College, was awarded $500,000 over two years by The New York Community Trust to engage a team of multilingual MSW level interns in expanding the range of new or unique mental health supports offered to participants in their home language.

Yazmin Gomez is currently placed in our Early Childhood Education program at our Polly Dodge Center through the program. Since joining the team, Yazmin has been able to provide bilingual support to children and their caregivers by conducting assessments with Spanish-speaking students, strengthening the relationships between teachers and the children’s parents/guardians, and connecting students and families to essential resources.

Yazmin is inspired by her resilient students every day as they continue to show their dedication and eagerness to learn. Growing up in a Spanish-speaking household, one of Yazmin’s favorite parts of her role is being able to provide guidance, comfort, and a sense of belonging to Spanish-speaking students and their families. She believes that increased accessibility is essential in ensuring more members of the community succeed and benefit from all available resources, reflecting key tenets of the initiative.

November Arts

Two new gallery shows and performances of our latest theatre production are coming to Hudson Guild in November.

This Is What Love Is, Paintings of Family, Friends, and Lovers, by Joe M. Gilmore will open at Hudson Guild Gallery on November 9th. Light Spills and Sprites, featuring work by Carol Salmanson opens at Guild Gallery II on November 10th.

Hudson Guild Theatre will hold performances of Sun / Blurring Shine, a double bill of plays by Adrienne Kennedy and Zakiyyah Alexander, on November 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, & 20th. For more details and tickets, CLICK HERE.

Community Haunted House

On October 29th, over 400 community members wandered through a maze and sinister rooms at the Elliott Center filled with scary clowns, creepy dolls, rotten zombies, and The Candyman. The evening provided chills, thrills, and fun at one of the only free Haunted Houses in the area.

A big thanks to all the Hudson Guild staff members and volunteers, including groups and individuals from Avenues The World School, The Mount Sinai Health System, Star Mountain Capital, and The New York City Museum School, who spent hours building haunted rooms, acting, and guiding groups through the house.

Construction Inclusion Week

Volunteers from Turner Construction Company visited the Elliott Center to give a presentation to 2nd-5th grade participants for Construction Inclusion Week. Participants learned about different careers in construction, the importance of safety on a job site, and about Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

This Month's Buzz

We hope you can join us on Tuesday, December 6th as we celebrate Hudson Guild's 66th Annual Dr. Elliott Celebration. This annual celebration recognizes Chelsea's community leaders for their outstanding service while bringing people together in honor of our founder, Dr. John Lovejoy Elliott. On Thursday, November 17th, Greenwich Village Lennox Health will be giving flu shots at the Elliott Center, 441 West 26th Street, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
